TransFOMO helps people host events, see who is actually coming, and share rides there. This page explains what the app collects, why it needs it, and who else ends up seeing it. It describes what the app does today.
What we collect
- Your account. Email address, name, and a profile photo if you add one. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email and name from them; we never see your password.
- Events you create or join. Titles, descriptions, dates, addresses and their coordinates, cover images, and your RSVPs.
- Rides. Pickup and destination addresses and their coordinates, seat counts, and ride requests.
- Your location, while a ride is underway. See below — this is the most sensitive thing the app handles.
- Messages you send to friends or to people in a ride.
- A push notification token, so the app can tell you that a ride was approved or an event changed.
Location, specifically
The app asks for location in two situations, and only those.
- Choosing a place. When you set an event or pickup address, your location biases the search toward where you are.
- While sharing a ride. Once a driver taps Start Driving, their position and their riders' positions are shared with the others in that car so everyone can see the car approaching and when it will arrive. This continues while the app is in the background or the phone is locked, because a driver checking directions at a junction is exactly the driver whose riders need the dot to keep moving. It stops when the ride ends.
Location is shared only with the people in that ride. It is not used for advertising, not sold, and not shared with anyone else.
Who else sees your data
We use a small number of services to run the app. They process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — hosts the database, accounts, and uploaded images.
- Google Maps Platform — address search, routes, and travel times. Addresses and coordinates you search are sent to Google.
- OneSignal — delivers push notifications.
- Resend — sends account emails such as sign-up confirmation and password resets.
- Vercel — hosts this website.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
What other people in the app see
- Your name and profile photo are visible to people you share an event or ride with.
- A private event's address is hidden until your RSVP is accepted.
- Leave signals are anonymous: a host sees how many guests have signalled, never which ones.
- Riders in a car can see each other's pickup points and live positions while that ride is underway.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account in the app, under Account. Your profile, the events you host, the rides you drive, your RSVPs and your saved places are removed. People going to an event you were hosting are told it is cancelled first, rather than finding it gone. Messages you have sent stay readable for the people you sent them to, with your name removed, so a conversation does not lose half of itself — except messages attached to an event you were hosting, which go when that event does. Location points recorded during a ride are tied to that ride and go with it.
Children
TransFOMO is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who sees it, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
